Waiting Out the Rain in Anacortes

There was only supposed to be a sprinkling of rain on Friday evening, and then the rest of the weekend should have been sunny. Instead, it rained all night Friday and most of Saturday, sigh.

Fortunately, Alexis and I always have a backup plan. While we waited for the rain to stop and the rock to dry, we spent our Saturday wandering the Anacortes farmer’s market, having a leisurely breakfast, poking around antique stores, browsing bookstores, catching the strangest parade, and then eventually having a long indoor bouldering session at Riverstone Climbing Gym.

In the evening, we made dinner on the beach near our campsite and caught a gorgeous sunset. We finished off the evening relaxing and reading at camp.

We woke up on Sunday to dry conditions, packed up our campsite, and stopped at The Store to get muffins for breakfast. Since they have a couple dozen flavours, we probably took about ten minutes to decide which ones we wanted to go with.

Then it was finally off to Mt. Erie to climb! We did a handful of climbs along the Main Wall, though I was most excited to send Neverending Story 5.9 because I was obsessed with The Neverending Story and Atreyu since I was a kid. It was a long, adventurous climb that gave us the classic views of the San Juan Islands from the top.

It may have rained a lot more than we had hoped but we still had a fantastic weekend hanging out together.
