Scrambling Sky Pilot

Sky Pilot Mountain
August 3, 2025
Distance: 15.26 km
Elevation gained: 1,318m
Highest elevation: 2,209m

Sky Pilot had been on my list for a year now - great views, easy access, and the infamous Pink Slab. Feedback I've heard about Sky Pilot's difficulty ranged anywhere from "It's a literal walk" to feeling very exposed and heady.

I wasn't sure where I was going to land on that scale but fresh off scrambling and simul-climbing in The Bugaboos, I was cautiously optimistic that I would feel comfortable. Liz and I opted not to bring a rope for the Pink Slab, but did bring helmets, microspikes, and ice axes.

The Pink Slab didn't feel scary but I did go carefully on the way up and especially the way down. We were lucky that the clouds parted a bit while we were at the summit and we got some nice views.

Highlights of the day include getting adventure recommendations for the Rockies from a lovely woman we met at the summit, and all the yapping that Liz and I did. Catching up on our latest adventures in the mountains and misadventures in life made the day absolutely fly by!
